“I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you are also to love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.””
(John 13:34-35)
Love defines us, yet we forget the true meaning of it. Love is unconditional. Love is eternal. Love is the summation of God’s law. Love is perfect. Love is the guiding command of the Church.
“He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.””
(Matthew 22:37-40)
Why do we love? What is the purpose and reason?
“We love because he first loved us.”
(1 John 4:19)
We love that others may have the glimmer of our Lord’s eternal love, which we have experienced. We become that live because it the image we were made in.
How do we apply that love?
The love God teaches us to become is unconditional. The love He shows us is powerful, beautiful, and eternal. We apply it by becoming that love.
The love inside us sets us apart. It is true love— real love; love that never ends.
Now we must ask ourselves, “ Does the world know us by our love?”
Is our love for God and people unconditional and eternal?
